Journal of Gratitude - Learning at Every Opportunity

Education comes in many forms, both formally and informally, often when we least expect it.  Other times we set out in hopes of learning.

What is one something you’ve learned this week that you're thankful for?

Journal of Gratitude - No Place Like Home

1/19/2020

Have you taken a look around lately?  Do you feel deep appreciation for having shelter?  So many in this world do not have a secure place to rest their heads.  If you are part of those of us who are lucky enough to have a place you call home, take a few moments today to walk around and soak in just how lucky you are.  It may not be perfect.  It may not have everything you have ever wanted, but it is your home, your shelter.

Describe your favorite location in your home and why you like it.

Journal of Gratitude - Sharing Your Life

1/17/2020

When we choose to share our homes and our lives with an animal,  (the furry, feathered or scaled variety, not the party type) we open ourselves to caring for an individual who depends on us.  We must think about someone other than ourselves, learning to become less selfish.  We also gain possible affection and make memories.  Even as our pets age and their needs change, we must adjust and quite frankly, cope with greater inconveniences.  But caring for these creatures as they age deepens our own understanding and compassion of our own future needs.

How have your pets, past and present, changed your life for the better? Describe your favorite pet (or former pet).  Think of a memory you cherish.

Journal of Gratitude - Strangers Coming Through

1/13/2020

Some of us think of strangers as always people to be feared while others see strangers as friends whom they just haven't met yet.  When you think about it, most people have good intentions.  When someone sees another person in need, they often step in to help out.

Write about a recent time when a stranger did something nice for you.

Journal of Gratitude - New Adventures Await

New experiences help keep life fresh and interesting.  Our brains release neurotransmitters, chemicals in the brain, responsible for feelings such as satisfaction, excitement, and happiness when we experience novel situations.  These new experiences help us grow and learn and remind us that life has so much to offer us if we are willing to venture outside of our comfort zone of the familiar.

What was something you did for the first time recently?  What is something new you hope to try?  Why haven't you done it yet?

Everyone must endure difficult times. They are a part of the human experience.  Sometimes we feel we may not survive.  It is these experiences that allow us to appreciate and recognize the positive times.  We are able to learn and grow through our struggles.

Use your journal to describe an experience that was painful but made you a stronger person.  Share your strength here with us.

It is during the little things in day to day life that we can find more joy than we previously imagined.  We often overlook all that our lives have to offer us.
